Smooch
is a young cat, about a year old. He was hit by a car after his family
decided they no longer wanted him and locked him out of the house. He
had multiple concussions, broken jawbones (including the roof of his
mouth being split in half), and one eye that was knocked out of its socket and
had to be removed.
Despite his injuries, Smooch is very sweet and affectionate. He loves to
have his belly rubbed, and purrs and kneads with his paws when he's
petted. The vet said
he is very appreciative of everything that is being done to help him.
His feeding tube was removed recently, and he was able to come to his
new home at Journey's End. He still has wires in his jaws and won't eat
on his own, possibly due to the discomfort of the wires, so he is fed
soft cat food with a syringe.
He's lost some weight, but we're hoping he gains it back after the wires
are removed. He seems to have no brain damage from the concussions, and
he's even feeling feisty enough to get into a few minor tiffs with the
other cats.
