Coco
is a toy poodle, around 10 to 12 years old and weighing only 5 pounds.
His owner was an elderly lady who had to move into a nursing home. Her
daughter-in-law took Coco briefly, but she said he wouldn't eat and was
messing up her house, and she was unwilling to keep him another day.
Florence agreed to take him in.
When the daughter-in-law arrived at Journey's End, she had a cardboard box with no air
holes that had been taped shut. She handed the box to our vet tech
Sue, who thought it must be a box of supplies. Instead it contained tiny Coco,
with no water or food or blanket.
Coco went to the vet shortly after arriving, and he had to have 10 teeth
pulled. He began eating better after that. He also had cataracts, which
he soon had surgery for. He has a little arthritis,
and is being monitored for kidney problems.
Coco lives in the PeeWee room. He's quiet and a little shy, but he loves
lap time.
