Keeper
is a small dog, probably a corgi mix, estimated to be 8 to 10 years old. She
was found along a road by a young man. He cared for her for around 3
weeks, but was unable to keep her, so Florence agreed to take her in.
Keeper is losing her vision and hearing, and also has a skin condition
that she is being treated for. After her blood tests improve, she will
have surgery for cataracts in order to try to save her vision.
The man who found her called her Lucy. The day she arrived, a group of
teenage volunteers were here. They fell in love with her, and all day
long kept asking Florence if she was going to keep her. So Florence
renamed her Keeper.
Keeper loves being outside, but at first she would hide in the bushes
and wouldn't come in. She is finally learning to stand at the front door
when she wants to come in, like at feeding time.
Florence calls her a "sleep-a-holic" because she spends most of her day
sleeping.
Keeper shortly after she arrived (she is receiving
treatment for her skin problem)
